Imagine the coolest, most unique music festival you have ever attended. Whatever festival you thought of, it probably doesn’t compare to Iceland’s Secret Solstice festival.
Called the most unique music festival in the world, the Secret Solstice festival takes place in a 5000 year old underground lava tunnel and during the time of the year the festival takes place — right around the summer solstice — the sun doesn’t set in Iceland.
The line-up this year features a fantastic line up including Foo Fighters, The Prodigy, Rick Ross, Big Sean, Chaka Khan, Seth Troxler, Kerri Chandler, Richard Ashcroft, and many more. You can even do other things besides listening to some great music. Some side events include the world’s only party inside a glacier — the world’s second largest! — as well as the chance to adventure the scenic countryside near the festival location.
Another cool thing about this festival is that it, like the rest of the country, uses geothermal power from the volcanoes in order to achieve carbon neutral status.
Festival director Fred Olafsson elaborates further on the event’s green initiatives: “we try to lessen the impact of Secret Solstice in all areas, whether it’s partnering up with other carbon neutral brands like Icelandic Glacial water, or working with Toyota Iceland who provide us with hybrid vehicles”.
