Apple owns Shazam, the magical app that “listens” to music that you want to identify. Each time you Shazam something, you’re generating data for the app and for Apple. Sometimes we get to see analysis of that data.

Based on all that Shazam-ing, the company has just released its predictions for which artists will break out both globally and regionally over the next 12 months. Watch out for:

  • The Last Dinner Party, a fascinating baroque-indie-pop group from the UK.
  • Nigerian singer-songwriter Bloody Civilian (the stage name of Emoseh Khamofu)
  • Riize, a hot K-pop group.
  • LA hip-hop duo Flyana Boss.
  • Kenya Grace, a singer out of the UK.

If you want to drill down to various regions and territories:

  • France: Aupinard
  • Australia: Jacoténe
  • Germany: Sira
  • India: Sukha
  • Venezuela: Yarge

There’s an Apple Music playlist featuring the top 50 best-bets for 2024. If anyone wants to go through it to identify any Canadians on the list, please do.
