Sobering Stuff: How Much Does an Artist Make from Streaming?

Answer:  Not much.

If a song is streamed through Apple’s iTunes match, the artist earns $0.0033052679771.  Spotify, on the other hand, pays a whopping $0.00966947678815 each time.

There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that we’re moving towards a streaming and subscription-based world when it comes to accessing music.  But with revenues like this, we’re going to see a massive, massive change in the way artists, publishers and labels do business.
