Someone is recreating the Grateful Dead’s Wall of Sound PA system in their house

One of the most famous PA systems in the history of music–maybe THE most famous system–was the Grateful Dead’s Wall of Sound rig, which appeared for a few short months in 1974 before the band realized that it was just too expensive and bulky to maintain. I devoted two episodes of my podcast, Uncharted: Crime and Mayhem in the Music Industry to it and its creator, Owsley Stanley. (Here’s part one and part two.)

For its time, it was incredibly advanced and changed the way live sound was engineered. The Wall of Sound was dismantled and its parts scattered. The WoS may have breathed its last in the fall of 1974, but this dude has been working on building a one-quarter-sized version for his house. (Via Keith)
