Someone paid US$50,000 for a ticket to a Beyonce show

Concert tickets have been rocketing up in price over the last decade, making it harder and harder to budget for all the acts you might want to see. But matters such as money are mere quibbles to some.

Beyonce auctioned off a special VIP ticket–actually, a special concert package–to her Renaissance tour as part of a fundraiser for a Texas charity. It included:

  • A pair of tickets to any stop on the tour
  • First class airfare on United Airlines and three nights hotel at a Marriott property.
  • A one-of-a-kind backstage tour “guided by Miss Tina” (Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles-Lawson).

The guide price in the auction was US$20,000. When the bidding stopped, the winner offered to pay US$50,000. No word in the identity of the buyer.

The rich are not like you and me.
