Songza vs. Rdio vs. Deezer vs. Galaxie vs. Google Play. Who Will Win Canada?

Yesterday at Canadian Music Week, representatives from the streaming music services currently in Canada assembled on a panel to talk about how things are going.  Canada.com reports:

With Google Play Music finally entering the Canadian market, streaming music service Rdio, one of the first platforms of its kind available in Canada, now faces growing competition and a quickly crowding marketplace that now includes competing companies like Songza,Google Play MusicDeezer CanadaXbox Music and Sony Music Unlimited.Streaming music via the internet seems to be the way of the future and Rdio wants to be as synonymous with the concept as Netflix is with streaming television and movies.

And let’s not forget that iTunes Radio is coming to Canada at some point this year.  Plus there are rumours that Spotify negotiations to come into the country are back on.  Continue reading.

  • I guess I’m far outside the targeted demographic.

    My home and cell data plans are such that I am limited to the number of hours I can stream audio, whomever the originator may be.
    As such, the radio and MP3 players are still my major source for listening to music.

    • Not that it helps with your home connection, but Rdio lets you sync music for offline use to your phone. Might be helpful if you have access to office wifi or something.

  • I’m an Rdio subscriber and am very satisfied although Google’s option of uploading my music files is tempting.

  • I am a user of Rdio and I can say I love the social part of the Rdio…I have been introduced to new music and connected with other users of Rdio
