South Africa’s Electronic Music Scene

Yes, that is a thing! Spoek Mathambo, whose music has been featured here, has released a documentary on the subject.

Directed by Nthato Mokgata and Lebogang Rasethaba, the doccie features interviews from some the industry’s leading artists and producers. Culoe de Song and Black Coffee touch on house music as a dance force in Africa and how it resonates with the people. BoyznBucks’s OkMalumkoolkat recollects his uMlazi, Durban upbringing and how his surroundings molded his unique brand of hip hop, kwaito, house and electronic sound.

Other interviews include producers Christian Tiger School, Richard the Third and electronic DJ Sibot touch on electronic music and where it all started after being in the game for over 10 years.
