Spotify has just added a feature called SongDNA that looks like liner notes on steroids

One of the problems with streaming is that it’s been impossible to go deep on a song or album without leaving the app. With an LP or CD, there’s the packaging, the artwork, and the liner notes.

Spotify knows this, which is why they’ve launched the beta of something they call SongDNA. Basically, it offers information on the creative connections of songs. On the mobile app, users can now get info on a song’s writers, producers, and collaborators. You can also learn about samples, interpolations, and covers associated with the song.

Spotify says, “SongDNA is designed to make a song’s creative lineage more transparent so fans can easily explore the people and influences behind the music they love.”

Premium users get first crack on both iOS and Android devices. The rollout will be gradual, but by the end of April, everyone should have it.
