Spotify has released its annual Loud and Clear music economics report. Let’s dig in, shall we?

Now that all the data is in from 2024, Spotify can issue its Loud and Clear report with all its stats and analysis and crazy-fun number crunching. If you want to go through the report yourself, you can find it here. Otherwise, I’ve got these fun facts.

  • Spotify paid out US$10 billion in royalties last year. Since the company began, they’ve paid out US$60 billion.
  • More than 12 million individual people uploaded at least one track to Spotify in 2024.
  • That’s a bit misleading, though, because Spotify says it counts 225,000 “professional and aspiring artists.” That’s defined by streams gigs played.

On that topic, how much are artists making? In 2024 (all figures in USD and keep in mind that this is only for Spotify, which holds about a quarter of the streaming market):

  • 70 artists made more than $10 million in streaming royalties
  • 210 made $5 million or more.
  • 670 made $2 million or more
  • 1,450 made $1 million or more
  • 2,940 made $500,000 or more
  • 12,500 made $100,000 or more
  • 22,100 maked $50,000 or more
  • 71,200 brought in $10,000 or more
  • 110,500 got cheques for $5,000 or more
  • 274,000 got at least $1,000

Again, the whole report is here.
