Spotify has released its “Artists to Watch” list for 2026. What do they have against rock and alternative?
A new year brings a new cohort of musicians. Who will break through in 2026? Spotify has made some guesses with its annual Artists to Watch list.
The list covers all sorts of genres–10, in fact. I do, however, take exception to their grouping of Indie and Folk into one category. They also put Rock and Alternative together and only picked three artists. THREE?
Let’s look at those two categories.
Indie/Folk:
- Hudson Freeman
- Dove Ellis
- Folk Bitch Trio
- Fcukers (I really like them)
- After

Rock/Alternative:
- Ecca Vandal
- Speed (Another band I like)
- Die Spitz
