Spotify is warning artists against “artificial streaming”

If you’re a musician or working somewhere in the music industry, you’ve probably seen unsolicited emails from people and companies promising to inflate your streaming numbers for a price. The theory is that these extra streams mean extra revenue–revenue you didn’t actually earn in the normal way. Not exactly the most honest thing, right?

Spotify calls this “artificial streaming.” Yesterday (September 29), the company posted this warning video.
