Star Wars Vinyl with 3D Holograms Carved into the Grooves

Believe it or not, one of the biggest selling vinyl records of 2016 is the soundtrack to Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. From what I remember, it was the most popular product of all the Record Store Day stuff sold last month.

Now there’s a new edition: vinyl with 3D holograms of the Millennium Falcon and a TIE fighter that have been carved right into the grooves. The artist involved, Tristan Duke, is the same guy Jack White calls when he wants to do something weird with his records.

Put the records on your turntable, spin things up to 33 1/3 and take a close look. If you view things from exactly the right angle, it will appeal that the spacecraft are hovering above the spin disc. Coooooool.

If you’re interested, the packages are available for pre-order now through Amazon for about $50 USD. The release date is June 17.
