Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley released from hospital after heart failure scare

The last time I saw Dercyk Whibley was back in January when we were conducting interviews for the CFNY Spirit of Radio documentary in Las Vegas where he and his family had relocated from LA a couple of years ago. This is a guy I’ve known since he was a teenager and I’ve been following his and Sum’s careers for close to a quarter-century. He looked good, too. I asked about his health–he’s had some well-publicized issues–and he said he was doing very well.

So it was scary to hear about him being rushed to hospital with severe pneumonia, something that could leave to heart failure.

Good news, though. He’s been discharged and sent home. His wife reports that he responded well to treatment and his now resting at home. His mother, who is a registered nurse, is with him, too. She helped him through many of his other health problems, so he’s in good hands.

Best wishes to Deryck. He’s a fighter.
