The battle of UK Christmas #1 has begun
With one more week until the final British singles chart before Christmas gets published, the battle to reach that top spot has begun in earnest. This, of course, is one of the most batsh*t crazy music events in the world, a tradition that goes back to the early 50s. Millions will place their bets on which song will top the charts next Friday.
Here are your contenders.
1. LadBaby
This parody group (a husband-and-wife team which has already raised a ton of money for charity with their songs) is pushing for its fifth Christmas number one with their spin on “Do They Know Its Christmas.”
2. Sidemen (x 2)
Sidemen, a YouTube group, have split in two with one half receiving £100,000 to record a song called “Christmas Drillings”…
…while the other half got £100 to record this.
3. The Kunts
Give them credit for not giving up. After falling just short with “Boris Johnson is a F*cking C*nt” (2020) and “Boris Johnson is Still a F*cking C*nt,” they’re trying again with what’s sure to be another future Christmas classic.
Also on the list are these more conventional (read: boring) contenders:
- Lewis Capaldi, Pointless
- Raye, Escapism
- Stormzy, Firebabe
- Lizzo, Some Day at Christmas
- Mariah Carey, All I Want for Christmas is You
- Wham!, Last Christmas
- Ed Sheeran & Elton John, Merry Christmas
