The box set for Weezer’s blue album reissue comes wrapped in a sweater

May 10 was the 30th anniversary of the release of Weezer’s debut albuim–the “blue” record–so you’d expect there to be a reissue in time for Christmas. You would be right.

The new blue version–fully remastered, of course–comes in four flavours.

The blue Zoetrope vinyl edition runs US$36. What makes it special? When you put it on a turntable and start it up, the images imprinted on the vinyl appear to dance and move. There’s also a two-LP 45RPM edition in a lovely gatefold sleeve that comes with unreleased photos.

The deluxe CD box (US$100) comes with three discs and includes 36 previously unreleased tracks (demos, rehearsals, BBC recordings, live performances, and more). There are lots of new liner notes and a couple of extra fun things.

Want more? The Super Deluxe Vinyl box set features four 180-gram LPs, a 10-inch, and a 7-inch along with some good tchochkes.

And at the top of the heap is the Super Deluxe Vinyl box set with the limited edition sweater sleeve. Only US$400. Oh, wait. It’s sold out.

Here’s a sample of what kind of unreleased material is on the album. This is “Undone – The Sweater Song (Third Practice).”
