The Cure sent me a postcard telling me of their first album in 16 years

This arrived in my mailbox today. It in came in a jet-black envelope with my name and address handwritten on the front in silver sharpie. It was postmarked from the UK.

At first glance the contents of the envelope appeared to be a recipe card-sized blank black bit of heavy stock paper. But if you look closer…

Very lightly embossed in the card are the words Songs of a Lost World. Below that a date in Roman numerals. I-XI-MMXXIV.

This is the name of a new studio album by The Cure. Its release date will be November 1, 2024. Robert Smith and Co. haven’t released a studio album in 16 years.

I appreciate the heads-up. No idea how they got my home address.

    • I don’t ever remember being on such a list. Still, I’m not complaining.
