The Flaming Lips have covered that David Bowie/Bing Crosby Christmas classic

In September 1977, a still reasonably coked-out David Bowie was invited by Bing Crosby to appear on his annual Christmas TV special. The result was one of the weirdest musical juxtapositions in the history of music.

A few weeks later, Bing would be dead, felled by a heart attack on the golf course.Bowie would retreat to Berlin with Iggy Pop, clean up and enjoy decades of success.

Few people have dared take on the Bowie/Bing duet. Now, though, there’s The Flaming Lips. It’s very, uh, Lips-y.

The Lips will have a new album entitled King’s Mouth in April, which will feature some narration (whatever that means) from Mick Jones of The Clash.
