The Foo Fighters are teasing something again. A new music video? Or something else?

Last week, the Foo Fighters posted a cryptic message on Instagram captioned “Are You Thinking What I’m Thinking?” It was soundtracked by a 13-second clip of what appears to be a new song.

Today (April 18), they posted this. It reads “Are You Thinking What I’m Thinking? Are You Feeling What I’m Feeling? This is Happening Now.” There’s another mystery clip of music that goes with it.

What does this mean?

  1. A new song is imminent, probably with a video. Given that the Foos have their own studio where they can record in complete secrecy, I wouldn’t be surprised that they’ve recorded a full album.
  2. When? Based on past teaser campaigns that I’ve seen, we should be getting something soon. It’s rare that something like this lasts more than ten days. (cf. the recent Depeche Mode teaser campaign for Momento Mori.) The goal is to build momentum and then BAM! I would not be surprised if a new song/album gets dropped this week, probably Thursday. That way rock radio stations around the planet will have a chance to add new music to playlists in time for the weekend. Think stations would go apesh*t and program a special “Welcome Back Foo Fighters” weekend? Absolutely.
  3. The announcement of a new drummer has to be coming soon. The Foos’ first headlining spot since the death of Taylor Hawkins is just 36 days off.
  4. I would not be surprised if there’s a secret club show or two before that first show on May 24. Such gigs are part of the Foos gameplan.
  5. Then again, I have no idea what goes on inside the minds of the Foo organization.

Keep watching the skies.
