The largest subwoofers…EVER!
It’s all about that bass, right? And how much bass is enough? NEVER!
Ascendo Immersive is a German company who were once known for their 80-inch(!!!) subwoofers. Turns out that’s too damn small. Their new model, is the 100 Sub Pro Passive Infrasonic Sealed, which, like the name suggests are 100 inches in diameter. That’s more than EIGHT FEET. No subwoofer is bigger. Here’s a picture from the company’s website.
From Music Radar:
“How have they done it? Well, the quad suspension system has been optimised for greater linear and non-linear movement across the range. The voice coil at the centre of the cone has a diameter of 21 inches in diameter, larger than many commercially available full-sized subs.
“We are proud to be the leader in infrasonic bass. Our continuous innovation in this category translates to an extremely high-performance, emotionally connected experience that enriches state-of-the-art home theaters and music reproduction systems with bass you can feel.”
The driver unit in the 100 Sub Pro alone weighs 260 kg. It can reproduce frequencies as low as 3 Hz. That is not a typo.
So who is Ascendo’s customer for these things? Clubs, movie theatres, and (incredibly) state-of-the-art home cinemas. And probably that kid down the street with the tricked-out Honda Civic with a spoiler on the back.
How much? No idea. Ascendo hasn’t said yet. But if you have to ask…
