The Last Word on Nickelback’s Detroit Lions Problem

This could be an interesting day for Nickelback.  With their halftime show coming up this afternoon at the traditional Detroit Lions Thanksgiving game, over 55,000 people have signed a petition imploring Lions management to find someone else.

Obviously, it’s too late and the gig will go ahead as planned–although you have to wonder what kind of abuse the band will endure.

But here are a few things worth adding to the controversy:

  • Nickelback’s Here and Now album was released on Tuesday.  It has an excellent chance of debuting at #1 on the album charts on both sides of the border.
  • Even though 55,000 signatures on a petition is a big number, it’s still less than the 60,000 people who paid to see Nickelback when they passed through Detroit on their last tour.
  • And you to have to hand it to the band for taking the piss out of themselves and this whole thing with the Funny or Die video.
