The Latest Band to Get Featured on The Simpsons is Spaceman 3. Wait–What?
The list of musical guests on The Simpsons is almost endless. In addition to dozens of mainstream artists (Paul, George and Ringo, Tony Bennett, Sting, The Who, BTO) appearing on the show, the following alt-rock performers have been turned yellow:
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- The Ramones
- Smashing Pumpkins
- Sonic Youth
- U2
- B52s
- Elvis Costello
- Blink-182
- David Byrne
- The White Stripes
- Green Day
- Zooey Deschanel (I’m counting her because she’s in She & Him; plus she’s been on three times.)
- Fall Out Boy
- Flight of the Conchords
- The Decemberists
- Sigur Ros
There’s probably more, but that’s all I can think of for now. (Here’s a decent list of all Simpsons’ musical guests.)
Season 27 will begin with a feature of Spaceman 3. They won’t be drawn into the show, but their 1991 track “Big City (Everybody I Know Can Be Found Here)” will be featured in a sequence where Homer gets high with a fling named Candace (played by Lena Durham) during his shocking trial separation from Marge.
I’m sure Jason Pierce is most pleased.
