The unseasonably warm weather in Ontario has many minds on the upcoming summer festival season. In particular, those in eastern Ontario and western Québec have been longing to hear news of who will be performing at this summer’s Ottawa Bluesfest. And finally, their wish has been fulfilled.

This morning (Feb 29) Ottawa Bluesfest officially announced its lineup for the 4-14 July music festival. Bluesfest may have started as a blues festival, but it evolved over the years into a major festival that transcends many musical genres, including a lot of alt-rock acts.

“As an internationally recognized event attracting hundreds of thousands of fans, we pride ourselves in presenting a broad and diverse lineup,” says the festival’s executive and artistic director Mark Monahan.

On opening night the main headliner is one of Canada’s most successful alt-rock bands: Mother Mother. And throughout the festival many other alt-rock artists will also be performing; including Mt. Joy, Matt Good, The Tea Party, and JJ Wilde.

Earlier this year Toronto alt-rockers Tokyo Police Club announced their fall retirement. It will be bittersweet for them to say their farewell to Ottawa on the opening night as well.

And one of the highlights this year is Ottawa-area artist Talk will be playing their first Bluesfest.

There will be a one-day pre-sale on Friday 1 March with some reduced prices on passes. More information and a link to the ticket sales can be found on the Bluesfest website.
