The Music Reunions to End All Reunions

What would be the biggest news in musical reunions?

The Smiths?  People have been badgering them to get back together for years.  And yes, such a reunion would be a major event.  The cool kids and critics would love it, but such a reconciliation would still lack widespread mainstream appeal.

Guns ‘N Roses?  Definitely.  There’s plenty of money to be made here and the attention would be significant.

Led Zeppelin?  Now we’re talking.  A Zep reunion would be both massive and tainted simply because Bonzo will probably be unavailable.

All these bands are on the wishlists of promoters worldwide.  But there’s one act that supersedes them all. One band that could potentially bring in as much money on a single tour as The Smiths, GnR and Zep combined.  A single entity that would break and set all-time records.

Since their breakup after last record (The Visitors, 1982), the band has become more and more popular, selling somewhere aroudn 400 million records worldwide.  The ubiquity of “Dancing Queen” in popular culture continues.  Mamma Mia continues to make millions both as a stage musical and a movie.

Years ago, ABBA was offered a staggering ONE BILLION DOLLARS for a series of reunion shows. I guess they didn’t need the money.

However, the 40th anniversary of the release of “Waterloo”–the song that shot them to fame–is coming up.

When asked about how they might mark the occasion, Agnetha Faltskog said this to a German paper:

“There seem to be plans to do something to mark this anniversary in some way. But I can’t say at this point what will come of them.”

Stay tuned.

If you were talking reunion with original lineup then Zeppelin would be out. Smiths, G’n’R would make big money. You forgot Husker Du. They could do huge coin….kinda like the Pixies did when they first got back together. Unfortunately none of these 3 will prolly ever happen.
