The Night Nirvana’s Bass Player Almost (Accidently) Killed Himself

When Nirvana was invited to perform at the 1992 MTV Music Video Awards, they were on top of the world. Nevermind was selling like crazy and it looked like they were on track to take over the world.

One of the songs Nirvana chose to perform that night was “Lithium” and at the end of their performance, the band started their obligatory smashing of the instruments.  Bass player Krist decided to break up his bass real good, so he threw it into the air as high as he could. And he got some pretty awesone air with the thing.

Unfortunately, he lost it in the stage lights and it came down square in the middle of his face.  It hit him so hard and knocked him out so cold that some people were sure he was dead. Fortunately, though, it turned out to be a just a really bad Sidney Crosby-level concussion.
