The numbers are in from U2’s Sphere residency and they’re big

Earlier this month, U2 wrapped up 40 performances at the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas. Although there was some skepticism going in, the residency turned out to be an even bigger success than anyone could have imagined.

The tech worked as advertised. The visuals were astounding. The audio was the best I’d ever heard from a concert. Even the air in the Sphere stayed fresh for a two-hour show despite the CO2 exhalations of 18,000 people. No notes. 10/10. Would go ahead.

Here are some numbers from the residency:

• Total gross at the box office: More than US$200 million. There have only been two other times when an artist has passed that mark–and both of those artists are named “Celine Dion.”
• Total attendance: 700,000
• Estimated revenue for the Sphere per show: ~US$4 million.
