The Oasis reunion is special and important. Here’s why.
Oasis has always been a polarizing band, prompting equal amounts of undying love and burning hate along with those who dismiss them as inconsequential and over-hyped. But regardless of your position, this reunion tour is important. Here’s why.
Oasis has open road in front of them when it comes to dominating the touring landscape.
U2 isn’t on the road. Neither are The Rolling Stones. Or Taylor Swift. Coldplay is still out there on the Music of the Spheres tour, but that’s coming to an end and has already been covered to death over the last two years. When it comes to major MAJOR tours, there’s nothing out there.
This is an old-school ROCK BAND tour.
We haven’t seen anything this big by a major full-on rock band since…when? This is a throwback to the way things used to be when rock drove popular culture all over the world. It’s a binding experience in the way we once saw with U2, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and other monsters. This is the biggest touring story (as far as rock goes) this millennium.
There’s inevitably going to be drama.
The fact that it’s a reunion tour featuring a couple of super-volatile siblings only adds to the hype. Will Oasis finish this tour without the Gallagher brothers killing each other? I have no doubt. Given the complexities and the amount of money involved (not to mention the financial penalties that must be in the contracts for non-completion of the tour), this tour will go off as scheduled. More-or-less, anyway. The only thing I’m worried about is Liam’s voice which has proven somewhat fragile in the past.
And I’m not the only one who feels this way.
See?
