The Offspring is set to be the next band to perform inside a video game
A couple of weeks back, I moderated an EntertainmentTO panel on the subject of AR and VR. There was much enthusiasm in the room for how these technologies could be exploited for music.
One of things we talk about was Marshmello’s insanely successful DJ set inside Fortnite. Some ten million people took part.
We spoke of the opportunities for monetization, collaboration, and interactivity across cities and continents.
The Offspring is certainly paying attention. Starting tomorrow (September 18), they’re going to perform inside a free multi-player shooter game called World of Tanks.
We're excited to announce that @worldoftanks has invited us to perform inside their game. Beginning Sept 18 you can join us on a virtual stage right in #WorldofTanks. The game has never seen anything like this before, so we're excited to be the first!#wot #WGFest19 pic.twitter.com/7oXkJ1EXoG— Offspring (@offspring) September 15, 2019
Once you log in, look for the game map. That’ll direct you to the stage

This reminds me of the fat boy slim concert in Second Life. I heard about it secondhand from friends who played, but certainly the videos were neat.
