The One Minute Music Book Club: Dio–Unholy Scriptures
Ronnie James Dio had one of the most distinctive voices in metal. Before he died in 2010 from stomach cancer, he did tours of duty in Black Sabbath (he replaced Ozzy in 1980), Rainbow, Heaven & Hell, Hear ‘n Aid, Elf (his original band), and, of course, his solo stuff. That’s quite a resume.
Martin Popoff, one of the most prolific music book writers on the planet, has just released Dio: Unholy Scriptures, which is a deep, deep dive into Dio’s solo career. If you were ever a fan of the guy, you need this for your library.
This has led me down a Dio rabbit hole. He did a guest vocal on a solo album by Kerry Livgren of Kansas.
And then there was this brilliant track with post-Ozzy Sabbath.
