The Polaris Music Prize Gala is coming up Tuesday night (Sept 17)

After a year of nominating, listening, debating, arguing, whining, and some very serious lobbying by 200+ music boffins across the country (full disclosure; I am one), we’re finally going to get a winner in the 2024 Polaris Music Prize.

For the uninitiated, the Polaris goes to the Canadian album voted the best of the year regardless of genre or commercial success. The 200+ people of the wider jury participate in whittling things down to the Long List and the Short List. Coming Tuesday,, though (September 17), everything will be in the hands of the Grand Jury. They will hash things out behind closed doors one more time and will not be set free until they agree on just one album being the best.

They will argue about these ten albums. We’ll have our winner by about 11pm Monday night. That artist will get $50,000 in cash.
