The Quietest CD in the World

St. Peter’s Church in Seaford, East Sussex, was in desperate need of repairs.  After all, the church had been around since the 12th century and things were bound to wear out.

But how?  With church attendance declining, it wasn’t practical to just keep passing around the collection plate.  A bake sale? A Sunday fair?  Probably not profitable enough.

That’s when someone came up with an idea of selling the church’s most popular feature: its silence.

A 30-minute recording was made of the silent ambience inside St. Peter’s.  The only decernable noises are squeaking pews, a few footsteps and a hum of distant traffic.

The CD has proven to be so popular that it’s sold out.  People from as far away as Ghana have ordered copies.
