The Short List for the 2025 Polaris Music Prize is out

The story thus far: Around 200 music boffins from across the country nominated albums for consideration. Those 200-ish albums were then subjected to a vote, resulting in the Long List. Now the Long List has been whittled to the ten albums on the Short List.

Each of these albums will then be voted upon by the Grand Jury in September, just ahead of the Gala at Massey Hall on September 16, hosted by 2021 Polaris winner, Haviah Mighty. The winner will receive $30,000.

Chances are most people won’t recognize anything on this list, but that’s the brilliance of the Polaris mandate: Find the best Canadian album of the year regardless of genre or commercial success.
