The Stone Roses Reunion: “It’s Happening.” Oh, Dear.

Apparently, a friend of Ian Brown sent a text to a friend who dutifully reported it to The Sun newspaper:
“It’s definitely happening.”

Other rumours say that Elbow frontman Guy Garvey knew of some secret rehearsals in Manchester this past summer.

Some kind of press conference is scheduled for tomorrow.

What every happened to leaving legend and myth alone?  Have we become so retro-ized that we can’t help making foolish attempts at recreating the past?  There are some bands that should take a lesson from the Beatles and the Clash.

Lest we forget, guitarist John Squire once created an art piece that included this phrase:  “I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses.”

Oh, dear.  Never say never, I guess.

  • Understandably the myth should be preserved, but there's a whole generation of fans who were either too young or discovered The Roses after the fact. This was the same way with me when I saw My Bloody Valentine. They were demystified, but who cares. I finally got to see them in the flesh.

  • Your concerns are valid however, as someone born in '92 (Way too young to see them the first time round) i can't help but be excited

  • As Mr. cross has put it; the typical music cycle is runs every 12-13 years. As part of this cycle is old bands reuniting for money/ old times sake. lets just hope this is a sign that over the next two years or so mean some FANTASTIC music comes out. Let things like this happen.

  • Why would they reunite? I think the answer is tied directly to another post you made about UB40's bankruptcy.

Better to cash in now while people seem to care.
