The Tupac murder trial has begun 30 years after he was shot
On the way to a Las Vegas club on the night of September 7, 1996, Tupac was riding in a 7-series BMW driven by Death Row Records mogul Suge Knight. At a red light on The Strip, a car pulled up to the passenger side, and someone from the back seat plugged the BMW with bullets. Tupac was fatally hit and died of his injuries less than a week later.
The murder has gone unsolved. No one talked. Three of the four men in the drive-by car are dead. But one remains: Duane “Keefe De” Davis.
LVPD had enough evidence to arrest him in 2023. This week, his trial on his alleged involvement in the Tupac murder has begun.
Was Davis the guy who pulled the trigger? The evidence indicates that he probably did not. Instead, prosecutors will attempt to prove that he was the “shot caller,” the member of the group who decided that Tupac had to go.
Jury selection at a courthouse in Las Vegas is underway. We’ll see if this brings any accountability to one of the most infamous murders in music history.
