The Weeknd is getting into the NFT game tomorrow

Anyone else tired of hearing about artists getting into the business of selling NFTs? Yeah, me, too–but for the moment, this is big news because there’s so much cryptocurrency being exchanged.

The Weeknd is the latest to get involved with a sale tomorrow (April 3). It will happen on a marketplace called Nifty Gateway, and everything revolves around the release of a new track. “Three visual artworks” that use clips of this new song will be available in unlimited numbers but only for a specific time, which gives them a certain cache.

But there’s more. The chief item in the sale will be a digital artwork featuring the full version of the song which–and this is key–will not be released anywhere else. The successful buyer will be the only owner of this new Weeknd song. No physical release, no streaming. Ever.

Let’s see how this works. Further details here.
