The weekly Canadian music sales report: CDs vs. vinyl

Thirty years ago, if someone had suggested that vinyl would again become the dominant physical media for music, you would have been committed as insane. Yet here we are in 2025. These are the latest figures courtesy of Luminate.

  • CDs sold in Canada last week: 24,846 (down 5.5% from last week)
  • Vinyl sales in Canada last week: 31,271 (down 34.4% from last week, taking us back to normal after the Record Store Day bump)
  • CDs sold in Canada this year: 469,675 (down 0.2 from a year ago)
  • Vinyl sold in Canada this year: 543,829 (up a whopping 24.5% from this time last year)

Streaming numbers:

  • Songs streamed in Canada last week: 2,831,779,345 (down 3.4% from last week)
  • Songs streamed in Canada so far this year: 44,978,478,441 (up 5.8% from a year ago)
