There are some new stats on TikTok usage
Despite threats of being banned in the US–and with the EU giving the app the side-eye, too–TikTok remains monstrously popular. A new YouGov study in the US offers some new insights.
- 21% of American use TikTok at least weekly. That’s up from 5% 2021.
- The biggest demo for TikTok? People 25-34.
- The biggest demo for posting/commenting? People 25-34.
- The biggest reason for using TikTok? “It’s fun and entertaining.” The fourth-most reason? Getting news.
- Users are more likely to be women with children who live in a city.
- When it comes to politics, TikTok users tend to be left-leaning.
- 61% of TikTok users are also active with other social media platforms.
- They like the idea of cryptocurrency.
- More than 15 million people sell stuff via TikTok with the last six million jumping on board through the latter half of 2023.
- The biggest shopping category is clothing/fashion followed by home decor, beauty products, and then arts/crafts/hobby supplies.
- The biggest brand on TikTok is Nike. Next comes McDonald’s Smirnoff, Gucci, and Dove.
- Biggest charity? Planned Parenthood.
- Most American support a TikTok ban. TikTok users don’t (obviously).
