There is now a Shithead on city council in Burnaby, BC–and that’s a good thing!
After several unsuccessful runs at politics in BC, Joey “Shithead” Keithley, leader of D.O.A., Canada’s legendary hardcore punk band, has been elected.
Keithley ran for Burnaby city council, coming in eighth (there were eight seats available) with 15,745 votes. He will represent the Green Party and vows to stand up against those who would move people out of their homes in the name of development.
Joey first got involved with politics in 1996 when he ran for the Greens in a provincial election but didn’t make it. Same thing with 2001. There was an attempt being nominated by the NDP in the 2013 provincial election, but that didn’t work out. Nor did an unsuccessful Green Party run in a 2015 by-election. Earlier this year, he said he was going to run for mayor.
Hey, a city councillor gig is a good start. Penetrate the system and fix it from within!
