There Should Be a NYC Park Named After Adam Yauch

At least that’s what a group of fans believed.  The goal was to have Squibb Park in Brooklyn Heights renamed Adam Yauch Park–somewhat fitting, especially since the place is being converted into a skateboard park and that it’s close to Harry Chapin Park.

A Facebook petition was launched to pressure city officials into seeing things from a Beastie Boys perspective.  This, however, was at odds with supporters and family of Dr. Edward Robinson Squibb, a 19th century pharmacological boffin of some renown.

In a showing of communtiy spirit, the Squibb Park people have thrown their support behind Ad-Rock’s move to have State Street Park–a place where MCA used to play as a kid–renamed “Adam Yauch Park.”  As much as it would be cool to have a skateboard park named after him–that’s what Squibb Park is becoming–State Street is home to lots of basketball.

Adam would have approved.
