There will be a 40th anniversary mashup release of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”

When I spoke to Bob Geldof back in September, he dropped a hint about a 40th anniversary edition of the seminal Christmas charity single, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” He didn’t offer many details other than it would be a remix.

It’s almost here. The new version will premiere across all British radio on the morning of November 25, which is 40 years to the day of the recording of the actual song. Once it gets that premiere, it’ll immediately be available on all digital platforms and in several physical forms.

This will mark the fourth time that the song has been recorded: the original 1984 session, Band Aid 20 in 2004, Band Aid 30 in 2014, and now “Do They Know It’s’ Christmas–2024 Ultimate Mix.” Each time there’s been a re-recording, new contemporary voices have been added to the mix (Sinead O’Connor, Sam Smith, Thom Yorke, Justin Hawkins, Damon Albarn, etc.)

What’s so special about this version? We get to hear three generations of Bono, Ed Sheeran singing with Sting, a contribution from Christ Martin, and a little bit from Underworld, among many others including the original Band Aid voices from ’84.

Here’s a trailer.
