There’s a new auction of rock memorabilia and it’s pretty gross

People will collect anything when it comes to rock memorabilia. Years ago, I encountered someone selling a collection of Thom Yorke’s toenail clippings on eBay. They swept up a pile somewhere backstage at a gig and tried to make a buck from them. I have no idea if a purchaser was found. There was also the woman who tried to sell Elvis’ pubes. Ew.

If that sort of thing appeals to you, then you’ll be interested in an auction called Punks, Monsters, Smut & Madmen: A Counterculture Cross-Section. Among the dozens of items up for sale are:

  • “Blood-Signed and Inscribed Personal Underwear. N.d. Underwear briefs belonging to GG Allin. Signed in blood over the fly and INSCRIBED ‘Suck my a** it smells’ to the reverse side. Stable; one hole near rear inscription; seemingly used; staining.”
  • Strands of Kurt Cobain’s hair. Two strands, specifically.
  • A portrait of Charles Manson
  • A David Bowie cardboard cutout designed for record stores
  • An 8-track version of The Sex Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollocks.
  • An awning that hung over the sidewalk about side of CBGB in New York. (Admittedly, that’s kinda cool. There are a lot of CBGB items for sale.)

A full list of items can be found here. Happy hunting.
