There’s a new doc on the early New Romanic movement with The Blitz Kids

[Another one from Elisa F. G. -AC]

“I’m never going to fit in so what’s the point?” A significant start to a documentary trailer. Clicking back to that sentence after 4 or 5 times, letting the relativity settle in, I let the trailer play all the way through.

“There’s a feeling of something new happening, rejecting the old. It’s the duty of every generation to reject the old.” It continued.

An art movement, a collective recount, visual art, the truth, a truth – TRAMPS! more than a documentary about a group of outcasts from London’s 80’s underground art scene, on the punk heels of The Sex Pistols and The Clash. June 22nd, 2023 Toronto’s Ted Rogers Hot Docs Cinema hosts a special Pride screening, offering up a new lens into The New Romantics and their contributions and undeniable torch-lighting culture that spread like wildfire from the underground to the world. Architects of film, fashion, music, and brazen authenticity The New Romantics, a.k.a Blitz Kids were the outsiders with the inside ability to reinvent what needed reinventing, looking spectacular while doing so.

With theatrical screenings in July 2023, (cities and dates to still be announced), Toronto Pride Festival is the perfect set and setting to premiere such a doc on June 22nd at 7:30 pm (506 Bloor Street West, Ted Rogers Hot Docs Cinema) TRAMPS! Will rip the veil off a movement, sparing no details or honesty, followed by a panel discussion that aims to do the same, Drag Me To The Movies host and award-winning queer camp drag artist Weird Alice will play moderator for the evening’s events. Tramps! Director Kevin Hegge, DJ, producer Jeffrey Hinton are also set to sit as panelists, opening up the room to a discussion and celebration of a film that brings so much light (and sparkle) to light!
