There’s a new study of Canadians and audio consumption. Do you fit anywhere into these numbers?

A new industry study called Now Hear This by Radio Connects has some interesting new statistics about how Canadians are consuming audio. You can find the whole study here but let me give you some highlights first.

Streaming in Canada was up in 2023 as was total album consumption.

Despite the naysayers, radio is still very much a Big Deal

  • 85% of Canadians listen to the radio every week. That’s six times greater reach vs. YouTube and Spotiy’s free tier.
  • 19% pay for Spotify
  • 13% use Spotify’s free tier
  • 13% use YouTube
  • 13% use Apple music
  • 9% use Amazon music

Narrowing things down to the key 25-54 age group…

We have this. And three out of four ours of any ad-supported programming is spent with live AM/FM radio.

The car is still radio’s safe space.

And here’s why DJs are imporant

Us radio people have been saying this for years.
