There’s Now a Metalhead Emoji

There’s a whole international process involved in approving emojis that is far, far more complicated that you might realize. But once a new emoji is approved, it’s available to all in a standard form forever.

Earlier this year, we were advised that the devil horns emoji was approved.

And now, there’s something just as cool: the metalhead/headbanger emoji.

And just to make this extra cool/weird, this emoji–a product of Finland–will be released part of an Advent calendar by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All the new emojis were chosen to represent Finland.

Think about that for a moment. If our new federal government were to choose emojis to represent Canada, what we get? A Tim Hortons coffee cup? A Mountie? Poutine?

Here’s hoping that the headbanger emoji will become part of our international pictographic language.
