These headphones shine light into your ears because…well, that’s where it gets weird.

Anyone who has ever suffered jet lag knows that it’s a real serious condition that can’t be overcome with a cup of coffee. Traveling through multiple time zones plays hell with the body’s circadian rhythm, something that may require several days or longer to overcome.

Enter Valkee, a Finnish company, with its HumanCharger, a set of ear buds that shine bright lights into your ears. The claim is that this stimulates “light sensing proteins” in the brain resulting in more energy. Valkee says these things (US$150) are just the thing for jet lag.

Before you reach for the credit card, note that there is no hardcore medical evidence that the things actually work. One reviewer called them a “swindle.”
