They’re remaking Bowie’s The Man Who Fell to Earth

When I saw David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth for the first time, I was totally freaked out. The story of Thomas Jerome Newton (Bowie’s character) who is sent to Earth from his parched homeworld was extremely unsettling, especially when he turns into a tormented alcoholic. It remains my favourite Bowie acting job.

Now comes word that it’s being rebooted as a limited TV series for Showtime. Call it a “re-imagining” of Walter Tevis’ 1973 novel. Bill Nighy assumes the role of Newton. The cast also includes Kate Mulgrew. Nice to see Captain Janeway back.

Showtime says the show will premiere on April 24. More here.
