Who do you think the best-selling artist of 2017 was? Hint: Think ginger

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide, has declared Ed Sheeran to be the best-selling artist of 2017. When all his commercially-available recordings are added together, no one sold more than Sheeran. This means sales of albums (digital, CD and vinyl), singles (downloads and singles) and on-demand audio streams.

His ÷ album (let’s just call it Divide, okay?) went multi-platinum in 36 different markets while the single “Shape of You” did the same in 32.

Here’s the full top ten.

1. Ed Sheeran
2. Drake
3. Taylor Swift
4. Kendrick Lamar
5. Eminem
6. Bruno Mars
7. The Weeknd
8. Imagine Dragons
9. Linkin Park
10. The Chainsmokers

This is the fifth year in which the IFPI declared such a global winner. Other artists to reach this pinnacle are Drake (2016), Adele (2015), Taylor Swift (2014) and One Direction (2013).
