This band had a chance to remix their massive hit song forty years later. Here’s what it sounds like now.

Back in the summer of 1982, Dexy’s Midnight Runners released their Too-Rye-Ay album, which contained their massive global hit, “Come On Eileen.” Not only did it reach number one on a bunch of different charts (#1 in the US, #2 in Canada), it was the best-selling single in all of Britain for a while. The song set up singer Kevin Rowland and the band for life. Yet the band was never happy with the song.

This summer, forty years later, Dexy’s returned to the studio to tweak the song into a “Come On Eileen (As It Should Have Sounded Remix 2022).” This is the result. Can you spot the differences? The drums seem for defined and the vocals slightly more clear.
