Funny/Weird

This band’s drummer is a bunch of mushrooms. He’s a fungi (sorry)

Manchester has been the home to many great bands: Joy Division/New Order, The Smiths, The Fall, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Oasis, and so on. There’s an excellent chance at some point, some of them members have been on mushrooms. In this case, those, part of the band ARE mushrooms.

Bionic and the Wires, which features humans Jon Ross and Andy Kidd, demonstrates that plants can make music, too. For their latest project, they plugged some mushrooms and some other plants into sensors. Those sensors are capable of picking up their very tiny electrical signals–internal bioelectrical bleats–that are then turned into MIDI language. That’s then translated into motor signals. Those signals are then used to move robotic arms.

The results are fascinating.
