This company wants to turn albums into video games

Primary Wave is best known as one of those companies buying up the catalogues of major artists. Once they make a purchase, they have to exploit this intellectual property to make back the purchase price and to turn a profit for owners and shareholders. That can be done through sync deals, encouraging covers, promoting use on social media, samples, interpolations, and so on. But this is a new one on me.

Game My Fan is a mobile game company. They’ve partnered with Primary Wave to turn albums into video games. The first is Can’t Get Enough: A Tribute to Bad Company. It looks somewhat similar to Candy Crush–a swap-puzzle thing–that comes soundtracked with a series of Bad Company covers (not originals) by Groups such as The Struts, Blackberry Smoke, Joe Eliliottt and Phil Collen of Def Leppard, and a few others. However, a couple of Bad Co. guys, Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke, do show up, too.

The initial download price (for both iOS and Android) costs $9.99, which sounds like a lot, but Game My Fan says this will allow purchasers to “update the game with any album, introduce playlists, and tracks as downloadable content.”

We’ll see how this works.
