Cool!

This guitar is 42,000 years old–sort of. What does it sound like?

All luthiers and guitarist know that the type of wood used in making an instrument influences its sound in both great and subtle ways. So what would a guitar made of wood 42,000 years old sound like? It was honestly carbon-dated to that age. The full series can be accessed here. (Via Digg)

Acoustic and hollow body electrics? Most likely. Solid-body electrics? “Subtle,” if at all.

  • I’ve been a dedicated follower of Ben’s channel for quite some time now. A typical Saturday morning is to brew a pot of coffee and check out his most recent upload of unique guitar builds. Ben is able to blend his boundless imagination along with a master build skill level with enough self deprecating humour to keep the viewer engaged. Anybody remember The Furniture Guys on PBS from 25+years ago? Very much in the same vein of taking fairly mundane content and presenting it in a way that keeps the viewer coming back for more. This build, along with the fence post guitar have taken Ben a long time to complete. Very excited to see the final results of both.
